Another win for progressive talk radio

From the Denver Post:

After a six-year absence, fiery liberal Jay Marvin jumps back on the Denver airwaves next Monday as morning guy on KKZN 760-AM.

Peter Boyles, who will be Marvin's main competition at rival KHOW 630-AM, says he, for one, is happy to have Marvin back in town. "I love the guy, and I'm glad he's back. He'll be a great part of the mix."

He couldn't resist one little shot. "Of course, he's crazy, but he knows that."

It's true. The old Jay was raging. The new Jay, late of WLS-AM in Chicago, is more reasoned. "I've mellowed out quite a bit. I think it's age and life experience. The longer you live, the more you realize you don't have all the answers."

He wants to bring more humor to the local liberal/conservative radio battlefield. "(The conservative) hosts are always bitter and angry. Why are they so angry all the time? They're in control. I think they need psychoanalysis." Zing!

He doesn't have a plan for the show. "I fly by the seat of my pants, and I've got a large seat. It's a lot to fly."

More from Westword.com:

To Kris Olinger, head of AM programming for Clear Channel-Denver, the dead heat between Franken and O'Reilly demonstrates that 760 is no longer the embarrassment it was when she assumed her current post last year. To build on this momentum, she confirms that she's hired Jay Marvin, who worked at KHOW in the late '90s, to be the station's first locally based host; he'll be heard weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m. beginning February 28. Marvin auditioned for the slot on February 4, providing the outlet, nicknamed "Boulder's Progressive Talk," with the first chance to weigh in on the biggest recent controversy in its figurative home town: the Ward Churchill flap. He talked up the experience on his personal blog, http://blogs.salon.com/0002606/, where he identifies himself as "America's favorite lefty and outsider-art troublemaker," writing that "It was nice to be able to get my point across and not get my head bitten off."
