On a less serious note
My ex-girlfriend's cat (which I inherited when we broke up) just had four kittens. The fifth one didn't make it. Never started breathing and the vet couldn't get it to start, either. I thought we were lucky the one born after it survived and the still born did not block the birth canal. So it didn't upset me too much. But all today, the mother keeps pawing at the front door, which she never did before. She climbed to the top of this closet to get at the carrier I took her to the vet in. She never climbed up there before, either. When I took the carrier down and she started pawing the walls inside - I figured it out. She can count to five. She knows one of her kittens is missing, and she's desparate to find him. If that doesn't pull at your heartstrings, I don't know what will.
