Willis Avenue

The Henry Hudson to the Cross County, not the Cross Bronx, is still probably the fastest way out of the city, but if you ever drive to New York, you want to know about the Willis Avenue and Third Avenue bridges. They're your free route over the East River between the FDR and the Deegan or Bruckner. The Third Avenue Bridge is one way inbound. The Willis Avenue Bridge is one way outbound. When you are headed north on the FDR, the signs make it clear you should take Willis Ave to I-87 North. Yet, when you're on I-87 South headed into the city, there are no signs at all explaining that you can take the Third Ave exit to get to the FDR. Why? Because the city wants you to take a detour onto Randalls Island, wait in line for thirty minutes at the single cash toll lane they have open, and pay them four dollars for the privilege or arriving half an hour late! Thanks a million, Mayor Bloomberg.
