Janet Reno saved Bin Laden in 1998

Leave it to Janet Reno. First helping Koresh create a tragedy in Waco, then pulling a gun on Elian, now letting Osama get away. Sounds like the worst problem in the Clinton White House was Janet, not anyone named Monica. Not to say Reno did no good, but give me a break. This was Breaking News from ABC earlier today. Here's part of an article from United Press International:

An FBI plan to capture suspected terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden before Sept. 11, 2001, was called off as too risky, ABC News reported Wednesday.

The secret plan to capture the Saudi fugitive was made five years ago and at least three years before al-Qaida carried out the attacks in New York and Washington.

Jack Cloonan, a former FBI agent who is now an ABC News consultant, said federal agents had planned to have a plane fly in and attack a compound in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where the al-Qaida leader was hiding in 1998. But when the plan went to then-Attorney General Janet Reno for approval, it was killed, Cloonan said.

"They came to the decision that this plan was probably too dangerous, that the loss of life on the ground would have been significant," Cloonan said. "There was concern that people around the bin Laden compound would be killed."

Cloonan was part of a secret team of federal investigators whose sole purpose was to apprehend bin Laden....

The former attorney general declined to comment to ABC News, saying the incident was classified.
