Despite the spectacle, Saddam's end is near

U.S. armored forces are about thirty miles from Baghdad now. Rumors of an "operational pause" several weeks in length seem to have been completely off base. On the bright side, these rumors seem to have suckered the Iraqis into making some ridiculous claims. When the tanks role down the streets of Baghdad, the information minister's claim today that "victory is near" for Iraq should make the Iraqis suspect everything else they have heard on Iraqi TV lately. Not that they don't already. Who knows. Pentagon officials insist that Baghdad will fall "from within," before they invade. I hope that happens soon.
