I just can't take it anymore. My ex-girlfriend used to want to go to the movies all the time, and after a year of going almost every other weekend, the idea of going to the movies almost makes me sick. I would rather go to the dentist's for two hours. At least they have magazines and sufficient light to read. I'm not trying to sound intellectual here, I'm just saying these movies are so stupid, boring, and pointless that it just isn't worth the admission fee. It's as bad as watching one of those shallow dating shows, dumb reality TV contests, or slap happy sitcoms. Don't get me wrong. There are some good shows on television, but you know the ones I'm talking about. The total lack of originality, depth, or redeeming value at the box office is nauseating. Of the top ten movies in theaters this week, only one had an overall review from yahoo any higher than B minus, and that was a remake of a classic musical. The only movie I've seen this year that I would actually recommend is 25th Hour by Spike Lee. Judge for yourself:
| Top Box Office (04/06/03) | |
| 1. | Phone Booth |
| 2. | What a Girl Wants |
| 3. | A Man Apart |
| 4. | Head of State |
| 5. | Bringing Down the House |
| 6. | The Core |
| 7. | Basic |
| 8. | Chicago |
| 9. | Agent Cody Banks |
| 10. | Piglet's Big Movie |
With all the money they're making from these lousy movies, you would think they could afford to hire better writers and develop some original story lines.
